EC and Application Counselor

You’ll be a student’s main guide from 9th through 11th grade: what to do outside class, which summer programs are worth it, which schools belong on the list, and how it all adds up to a strong application. You stay with each student for at least a year, so you see the growth up close.

Section 01

Who we are

INSPIRATE helps motivated students punch above their weight class and earn acceptances at selective schools where they’ll actually thrive, without the “Ivy or bust” pressure cooker. Founded in 2023, we work with students from 9th grade through application season.

Our students

Motivated high schoolers, 9th through 12th grade, aiming for selective schools. Their families want a clear plan, not more pressure.

What we do for them

Activities and summer programs early on. Then school lists, application strategy, personal statements, and supplements. One team from 9th grade to decision day.

How we work

Regular 1:1 meetings with a written recap after each one. Progress tracked for every student. Monthly quality reviews so nothing slips, and a student portal that keeps it in one place.

Where you fit

You’re the person a student and their family talk to most. You set the plan for activities and summer programs, build the school list, and set students up for a strong senior year.

Section 02

What you’ll own

You own a roster of students from the day they start with us until they’re ready for application season. You’re their strategist, their coach, and the steady person in their corner.

Core

Monthly 1:1 meetings

Meet with each student on your roster once a month. Come in with an agenda, and leave with next steps so precise that the student will reach their goal unless they do nothing at all.

Core

Activities and summer programs

Help students find and build activities that mean something to them, and choose summer programs worth the time and money. Depth over a long list.

Core

School lists and strategy

Build a school list around the student, with reaches, targets, and likelies that actually fit. Shape the overall application strategy as junior year comes into focus.

Ongoing

A recap after every meeting

Within 12 hours of every meeting, send the student and family a clear written recap: what you covered, what’s next, and who owns it.

Ongoing

Tracking progress

Keep each student’s progress up to date in our student portal so nothing slips between meetings.

The short version: Meet. Recap. Track. Repeat, for at least a year. A student should finish 11th grade with a plan they understand and activities they’re proud of.

Section 03

What great looks like

Three things separate a great counselor here from a good one.

Pillar 01

Depth over checklists

A few activities a student cares about beat a long list padded for admissions. You help them go deep.

Pillar 02

Clarity for families

Parents should never wonder what’s happening. Every meeting ends with a recap they can read in two minutes.

Pillar 03

Consistency

Students do best with the same steady person over time. That’s why we ask for at least a year with each one.

Section 04

How you’ll be measured

Two things matter: how your students are doing, and how their families feel about working with us.

Student outcomes

  • Progress on the planAre your students hitting the milestones you set together for activities, programs, and their list?
  • Admissions resultsWhere your students apply and get in, measured against a list built to fit them.

Family experience

  • Recaps, on timeA clear recap after every meeting, sent within 12 hours.
  • Family feedbackFamilies rate their experience after every meeting, so you always know how it’s going.

Section 05

Who this role is for

We’re looking for someone who has done this before and still cares about doing it better.

You’re a fit if

  • You have real admissions or college counseling experience, and you can break the process into bite-sized pieces
  • You’ve helped a student shape their activities and can point to exactly what changed
  • You coach, not just direct: you help students see where they stand, make the most of it, and understand why each step matters
  • You can commit to your students for at least a year, ideally several
  • You’re steady with anxious parents and honest with ambitious students

This isn’t for you if

  • You use the same approach for every student
  • You’re looking for something short-term
  • You think the only good outcome is an Ivy
  • Following up and holding students accountable feel like extra work to you

Section 06

Schedule & structure

This role is fully remote and part-time.

  1. Fully remote

Work from wherever you do your best work.

  2. Part-time, 5–10 hours a week

Most meetings happen on weekday evenings and during the day on weekends, when students are out of school.

  3. Weekends are a must

During the school year, you’ll need to be available on weekends, consistently. In the summer, we work around each student’s schedule instead.

  4. Part-time employee

This isn’t a contract position. You join as a part-time employee because we’re building a long-term partnership with you, not something short-term.

  5. A one-year commitment

You stay with each student for at least a year, ideally several. That consistency is a big part of how we help students.

Section 07

Apply now

A short application, plus a short Loom video. The Loom is where we learn the most about how you think. If it looks like a fit, we’ll reach out with a short work sample.

Can you commit to your students for at least one year?

Google Drive or Dropbox, set so anyone with the link can view.

Record a 3–5 minute Loom answering these three questions, in order:

  1. Background: Walk us through your counseling experience: who you’ve worked with, what you helped them with, and how you build a school list.
  2. Role-play: Act this out, talking to the camera as if we’re the student. A sophomore tells you they have no real activities, and their parents expect Ivies. Run the start of your first meeting: the questions you’d ask, how you’d respond to what they say, and the exact next steps they’d leave with.
  3. Why this role: What do you know about INSPIRATE, and why do you think you’d be a fit for this role specifically?

Be specific. Stories from your own work tell us far more than general claims. (Loom is free at loom.com.)
