Counselor Lead

You’ll lead our counselor team and own the experience every family has with us, from onboarding to admissions results. That means running monthly quality reviews, catching problems before families feel them, and building the systems that keep quality high as we grow.

Section 01

Who we are

INSPIRATE helps motivated students punch above their weight class and earn acceptances at selective schools where they’ll actually thrive, without the “Ivy or bust” pressure cooker. Founded in 2023, we work with students from 9th grade through application season.

Our students

Motivated high schoolers, 9th through 12th grade, aiming for selective schools. Their families want a clear plan, not more pressure.

What we do for them

Activities and summer programs early on. Then school lists, application strategy, personal statements, and supplements. One team from 9th grade to decision day.

How we work

Regular 1:1 meetings with a written recap after each one. Progress tracked for every student. Monthly quality reviews so nothing slips, and a student portal that keeps it in one place.

Where you fit

You lead the counselors and report directly to Shinwoo Lee, our founder. Counselors bring you problems; you make sure fewer of them happen next time.

Section 02

What you’ll own

You own quality across the whole counseling team. If a family has a great year with us, that’s partly you. If something goes wrong, you find out first.

Core

Monthly quality reviews

Review every counselor’s students each month: progress, recaps, and anything at risk. Give clear feedback and follow up.

Core

The family experience

Own the path from onboarding to admissions results. Every family should know what’s happening and feel looked after.

Core

Catching problems early

Spot students falling behind or families getting frustrated before it turns into a complaint, and step in.

Ongoing

Systems that scale

Build the checklists, templates, and processes that keep quality the same whether we have 100 students or ten times that.

Core

Hiring and onboarding

Make hiring decisions for the counseling team, and onboard new counselors so they meet our standard from day one.

Ongoing

Making counselors better

Give counselors feedback and examples of great work.

The short version: Review. Catch. Fix. Build the system. If a family is surprised by a problem, something upstream needs to change.

Section 03

What great looks like

How we think about leading this team.

Pillar 01

Quality is a system

Great counselors still need a process that catches what they miss. You build it.

Pillar 02

No surprises

Families should hear about a problem from us first, along with the plan to fix it.

Pillar 03

Lead by the standard

Would we trust our own child with this program? You make sure the answer is yes, every month.

Section 04

How you’ll be measured

You’re measured on quality across the team, not on any one student.

Quality

  • Review coverageEvery counselor and every student reviewed each month.
  • Problems caught earlyIssues flagged and fixed before a family has to raise them.

Families and team

  • Family satisfactionFamilies rate their experience after every session. Those ratings are the measure.
  • Counselor growthEach counselor’s ratings over time, plus their monthly reviews, show whether they’re getting better.

Section 05

Who this role is for

This is a leadership role. We’re looking for someone who has run a team and built the systems behind it.

You’re a fit if

  • You’ve managed a team and can say how big it was and for how long
  • You’ve built a system that kept quality consistent across a team
  • You stay calm with an unhappy client and know how to turn it around
  • You like process, but only the kind that actually helps
  • You keep the student at the center of every decision

This isn’t for you if

  • You’d rather do the work yourself than review someone else’s
  • You avoid hard conversations with your team
  • You think quality means more meetings

Admissions or education experience is required. You’ll set the bar for our counselors, so you need to know the work yourself.

Section 06

Schedule & structure

This role is fully remote and part-time or full-time.

  1. Fully remote

Work from wherever you do your best work.

  2. Part-time or full-time

We’re open to either, depending on the person.

  3. Employee

This isn’t a contract position. You join as an employee because we’re building a long-term partnership with you, not something short-term.

  4. Getting started

Your first two weeks are mostly onboarding and training: how we work, the tools we use, and the standard we hold. Then you start leading the counseling team, with the team behind you.

Section 07

Apply now

A short application, plus a short Loom video. The Loom is where we learn the most about how you think. If it looks like a fit, we’ll reach out with a short work sample.

Google Drive or Dropbox, set so anyone with the link can view.

Record a 3–5 minute Loom answering these three questions, in order:

  1. Background: Walk us through how you lead: how you set the bar for your team, and what you do when someone falls short of it.
  2. Role-play: Act this out, talking to the camera. A parent emails that their daughter’s counselor missed two recaps and they’re thinking about leaving. First, as if we’re the parent, have the call you’d have with them. Then, as if we’re the counselor, have the conversation you’d have with them next. End with what you’d change so it doesn’t happen again.
  3. Why this role: What do you know about INSPIRATE, and why do you think you’d be a fit for this role specifically?

Be specific. Stories from your own work tell us far more than general claims. (Loom is free at loom.com.)
