AI Developer (Internal Tools)

You’ll build the systems that run INSPIRATE behind the scenes, including our student portal, automations, and AI workflows. You’ll work closely with our operations team to turn manual work into tools that just run.

Section 01

Who we are

INSPIRATE helps motivated students punch above their weight class and earn acceptances at selective schools where they’ll actually thrive, without the “Ivy or bust” pressure cooker. Founded in 2023, we work with students from 9th grade through application season.

Our students

Motivated high schoolers, 9th through 12th grade, aiming for selective schools. Their families want a clear plan, not more pressure.

What we do for them

Activities and summer programs early on. Then school lists, application strategy, personal statements, and supplements. One team from 9th grade to decision day.

How we work

Regular 1:1 meetings with a written recap after each one. Progress tracked for every student. Monthly quality reviews so nothing slips, and a student portal that keeps it in one place.

Where you fit

You’re the person operations comes to when something takes too long. You figure out what to build, build it, and make sure people actually use it.

Section 02

What you’ll own

You own our internal tools: the portal, the automations between our systems, and the AI workflows that save the team time.

Core

Student portal

Build and improve the portal that students, families, and counselors use to track progress, meeting recaps, and student profiles.

Core

Automations

Connect our tools so routine work like reminders, recaps, handoffs, and reporting happens on its own.

Core

AI workflows

Use LLMs where they help, like drafting, summarizing, and sorting, and keep a person in the loop where quality matters.

Ongoing

Work with operations

Sit with the people doing the work, find the slow parts, and fix them.

Ongoing

Keep it reliable

Monitor, document, and maintain what you build so it keeps working.

The short version: Find the manual work. Automate it. Make it reliable. Make sure people use it.

Section 03

What great looks like

How we want our tools built.

Pillar 01

Real problems first

Start from what operations struggles with, not from the newest tool.

Pillar 02

Simple and reliable

A boring tool that never breaks beats a clever one nobody trusts.

Pillar 03

Careful with data

Student information and family communication need care. Build with privacy and accuracy in mind.

Section 04

How you’ll be measured

You’re measured on the time you save the team and how dependable your tools are.

Impact

  • Hours savedManual work taken off the team’s week.
  • AdoptionTools people actually use.

Reliability

  • Uptime and errorsSystems that work without babysitting.
  • Shipping paceImprovements shipped every week.

Section 05

Who this role is for

We need someone who builds practical tools and likes working with the people who use them.

You’re a fit if

  • You’ve built internal tools or automations and can explain the problem each one solved
  • You’re comfortable with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, and LLM APIs
  • You’ve used tools like Zapier, Make, n8n, or GoHighLevel
  • You like talking to the people who use what you build
  • You can ship improvements every week

This isn’t for you if

  • You want a fully specced ticket before you start
  • You build for novelty instead of need
  • You think documentation is optional

Section 06

Schedule & structure

This role is fully remote and part-time or full-time.

  1. Fully remote

Work from wherever you do your best work.

  2. Part-time or full-time

We’re open to either, depending on the person.

  3. Independent contractor

This is a contract role. You work as an independent contractor and handle your own taxes.

  4. Getting started

Your first two weeks are mostly onboarding and training: how we work, the tools we use, and the standard we hold. Then you start on your first project, with the team behind you.

Section 07

Apply now

A short application, plus a Loom of something you built for us. That’s the part we weigh most.

Tools and languages
Part-time or full-time?

Google Drive or Dropbox, set so anyone with the link can view.

Record a Loom (up to 10 minutes) covering both of these, in order:

  1. Introduce yourself: Who you are, what you’re best at, and the most advanced thing you’ve built.
  2. Build something new: Come up with a tool you think INSPIRATE could use, build it, and show it working. Make it ambitious: this is where we see your creativity. Then walk us through how you built it and how long it took. We value speed as much as depth.

Generic chatbots, tutorial projects, and template apps won’t make the cut. Show us something we haven’t seen before. (Loom is free at loom.com.)
